Spelling  rules

1.Make the plurals of most nouns by simply adding-s to the end.

Ex-Book-books

Journey-Journeys

2.If the noun ends with a consonant plus-y make the plural by changing the –y to-ies.

Ex-Berry-berries

3.If the noun ends with –ch,s,sh,x,or z add-es to make the plural.

Ex-Church-churches

Bus-buses

Box-boxes

But if the-ch ending  is pronounced-k,then just make the plural by adding –s.Ex-Stomach-stomachs

4.For nouns  which end in a consonant or a single vowel plus-f or fe make the plural by changing  the f or fe to-ves.

Ex-Half-halves

Knife-knives 

5.Nouns ending  in two vowels –f usually  form plurals in the normal way with-s.

Ex– chief-chiefs 

6.Nouns ending in-o can add either-s or -es in the plural.

7.Nouns which end in-s usually  come from Latin;the plurals of these are made by changing  the-is to –es.
