Explanation
Formula Auditing tools help you understand how formulas are connected and troubleshoot calculation problems.
Main Tools
- Trace Precedents
- Trace Dependents
- Remove Arrows
- Show Formulas
- Error Checking
- Evaluate Formula
- Watch Window
Trace Precedents
Shows which cells provide data to a selected formula.
Example:
=D2*E2
Trace Precedents shows that D2 and E2 are used.
Trace Dependents
Shows which formulas depend on the selected cell.
For example, if B2 is used in:
=C2+B2
Trace Dependents helps identify that relationship.
Remove Arrows
Removes the arrows displayed by Trace Precedents or Trace Dependents.
Show Formulas
Displays formulas instead of their calculated results.
Normal:
5000
Show Formulas:
=B2*C2
Practice
Create a worksheet containing at least five connected formulas and use:
- Trace Precedents
- Trace Dependents
- Show Formulas
- Remove Arrows
