INDIRECT converts a text reference into an actual Excel reference.

Syntax

=INDIRECT(ref_text,[a1])

Example

If A1 contains:

B5

then:

=INDIRECT(A1)

returns the value stored in B5.

Practical Example

If A1 contains:

C10

and C10 contains 50000:

=INDIRECT(A1)

Result: 50000
