Explanation

VALUE converts a number stored as text into an actual numeric value.

Syntax

=VALUE(text)

Example

If A2 contains the text:

“5000”

=VALUE(A2)

Result:

5000

The value can now be used in mathematical calculations.

Another Example

=VALUE(“125.50”)

Result:

125.5

Real-World Use

Imported data often contains numbers stored as text. VALUE can convert them into usable numbers for calculations.

Practice

Take an imported sales dataset where sales amounts are stored as text and convert them into numeric values using VALUE.
