Data Validation can display instructions when a user selects a cell.

Input Message

Example:

Title: Enter Age

Message: Please enter an age between 18 and 60.

Error Alert

Excel can display an error when invalid data is entered.

Three main styles:

  • Stop — prevents invalid entry
  • Warning — warns the user
  • Information — provides information

Example

For Age:

Allow: Whole Number
Between: 18 and 60
Error Alert: Stop

If someone enters 75, Excel displays an error message.
