What is VBA?

VBA (Visual Basic for Applications) is the programming language built into Microsoft Office applications, including Excel.

VBA can automate repetitive tasks such as:

  • Formatting reports
  • Creating invoices
  • Processing data
  • Generating reports
  • Creating buttons and forms
  • Working with worksheets and workbooks

What is a Macro?

A Macro is a recorded or programmed sequence of actions that Excel can execute automatically.

Example

Instead of manually:

  1. Formatting a report
  2. Adding borders
  3. Formatting headings
  4. Adjusting columns

you can run one macro to perform these tasks.

Practice

Think of three repetitive Excel tasks that could be automated with a macro.
