Excel worksheets are made up of rows and columns.

Rows are identified by numbers: 1, 2, 3…

Columns are identified by letters: A, B, C…

The intersection of a row and column is called a Cell.

A group of cells is called a Range.

Examples:

  • A1:A10 — vertical range
  • A1:E1 — horizontal range
  • A1:C10 — rectangular range
