Explanation
When external data is imported through Power Query, Excel can create a query.
A query stores the steps used to connect to and transform the data.
Queries & Connections Pane
Open:
Data → Queries & Connections
The pane can show the queries and connections associated with the workbook.
Example
Suppose you import:
- Sales_2026.csv
- Customers.xlsx
- Products.xlsx
These may appear as separate queries.
Workbook Connections
A workbook connection links Excel to an external data source.
Examples:
Excel Workbook → Sales CSV
or
Excel Workbook → External Database
Refreshing Imported Data
Suppose the source contains:
|
Product |
Sales |
|
Keyboard |
50000 |
|
Mouse |
35000 |
Later, Monitor is added:
|
Product |
Sales |
|
Keyboard |
50000 |
|
Mouse |
35000 |
|
Monitor |
80000 |
Refreshing the query can bring the updated source into Excel.
Connection Management
Depending on the connection, users can review or manage properties such as:
- Connection name
- Source information
- Refresh settings
- Usage
Practice
Create or use an imported table and open the Queries & Connections pane. Identify the query and practice refreshing it.
