Explanation
Grouping allows you to organize rows or columns and temporarily collapse or expand detailed information.
This is especially useful for large worksheets containing:
- Monthly sales
- Department-wise expenses
- Regional reports
- Product details
- Yearly data
Excel creates an Outline with + and − buttons that allow you to show or hide grouped data.
Example
|
Month |
Sales |
|
January |
40,000 |
|
February |
45,000 |
|
March |
48,000 |
|
April |
52,000 |
|
May |
55,000 |
|
June |
60,000 |
You can group January–March and April–June separately.
Practice
Create a six-month sales table and identify which rows should be grouped.
