Extracts characters from the left side of a text.

Syntax

=LEFT(text,num_chars)

Example

A2 = EMP2026HR001

=LEFT(A2,3)

Result: EMP

RIGHT

Extracts characters from the right side of a text.

=RIGHT(A2,3)

Result: 001

MID

Extracts characters from the middle of a text.

Syntax

=MID(text,start_num,num_chars)

=MID(A2,5,4)

Result: 2026
